Maribor, with 100.000 inhabitants Slovenia’s second largest city, lies on the Drava river between the Kobansko Hills in the North and mighty Pohorje, known for its Alpine Skiing world cup in the South. University city is already a part of the judo World, since it hosted European Championships for Seniors in 2002. The city was also European capital of culture in 2012 and European youth capital a year later. In the last few years the city is well known in the World due to successes in football, since the local club NK Maribor competes in the Champions League.
